Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove colored or achromatic ion exchange substances, by bringing ion exchange fibers of a prescribed ratio of length to diameter into contact with a liquid containing the ion exchange substances.
CONSTITUTION: Ion exchange fibers, which are made of acrylonitrile, vinyl chloride, PVA or the like and have a length of 25mm or less, a diameter of 100μm or less and a length-to-diameter ratio of about 3500 or less, are brought into contact with a liquid containing colored or achromatic ion exchange substances. Since the shape of each fiber is prescribed and its specific surface area is increased, the time cost to reach the equilibrium ion exchange capacity is shortened and the change in the capacity dependent on the molecular weight of an exchanged substance is little and the exchange velocity is high in general. When the fibers are filled in a column or the like, the separation effect is heightened and problems such as tailing in analysis are eliminated.
