CONSTITUTION:To fulfill multi-address transmission from terminal 31 to terminals 41-44, a data signal from terminal 31 is sent to data exchange 1, junction line 5 and data exchange 2 and then transmitted to terminals 41-44. If terminals 43 and 44 are in process of data exchange at this time, this state is detected by exchange 2 and a signal based upon it is sent from data transmitter 7 to an originating side and then dispalyed on display unit 8. Consequently, the originating side can know the multi-address state of the repeating side. As for a method of detecting a multi-address state, a multi-address connection request signal is sent from exchange 2 to terminals 41-44 prior to multi-address transmission and in response to the signal, terminals 41-44 send answer signals back, thereby detecting the presence of those answer signals.
