Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic recording medium featuring the excellent conductive properties as well as the good adhesion between the magnetic layer and the substrate by giving the swelling (dissolution) process to the substrate surface along with sticking of the conductive powder and then forming the magnetic layer on such substrate surface.
CONSTITUTION: Conductive powder 2 of the carbon black of grain size of about 2μ or less, the silver powder and the like is stuck onto substrate 1 of about 2W75μ thick made of the polyester group, the polyolefin group, etc. And then the magnetic coating material is applied over powder 2 and dried to form magnetic layer 3. For the sticking of powder 2 to substrate 1, powder 2 is dispersed into the solvent which gives swelling or dissolution to substrate 1, and then the dispersed solution is applied on substrate 1 and dried. As a result, both the surface treatment and the sticking of powder 2 can be performed simultaneously. The solvent to be used is selected properly. For instance, the alcohol containing the phenol group is used for the substrate of the polyester film.
