Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A benzene derivative of formula I [X is hologen; R is oxazoline with or without substituents, formyl or acyl possibly protected, and formula-COOM (M is H or metal atom)].
EXAMPLE: 2-(4-Iodophenyl)propionaldehyde.
USE: An intermediate for antiinflammatory and analgesic agents, e.g. 2-(4-heterocycle- substituted phenyl)propionic acid, obtained by the novel Grignard reaction, etc.
PREPARATION: A 2-(4-halo-substituted phenyl)propoxide of the formula III, obtained from a 4-halo-substituted phenyl methyl ketone of formula II, is treated with an acid to form a 2-(4-halo-substituted phenyl)propionaldehyde.
