Abstract

PURPOSE: To decrease starting torque pulsation and improve operation power-factors by constituting a power converter with a combination of a natural commutating type power converter and a forced commutating type power converter.
CONSTITUTION: When starting a synchronous motor 7, a commutating command signal to be given to the natural commutating type power converter is locked, and a commutating command is given to the forced commutating type power converter 6 instructing that the commutating angle of lead should be O°. When the desired number of rotations is obtained, a commutating command is then given to the natural commutating type power converter 5 instructing that the effective commutating angle of lead be β, and another command to the forced commutating type power converter 6 instructing that the commutating angle of lag be β. By so doing, the synchronous motor 7 can be started with the maximum torque produced without interruption of DC current, besides it can also be operated with the motor power- factor 1 during normal operation.
