Abstract

PURPOSE: To make edge emphasis and edge extraction easy by using an ROM having N-number addresses to convert picture data, which can be expressed with N- number gradations, to one output of the half-tone level.
CONSTITUTION: Input data of N-level digitized picture densities from a scanner are applied to one ROM as addresses A0WA3, and data transfer clock RD synchronized with input data is used as a strobe to read data D0WD3 from the ROM. In case of input data of a picture expressed with 16 gradations, contents of the ROM are as shown in figure 4 for the edge processing where levels 0W5, levels 12W15 and levels 6W11 are a low level, a high level and a half tone respectively. By this method, input of picture data of level 5 is converted to the output of level 0 by reading contents of address 5 immediately, and similarly, input of level 7 is converted to the output of level 1.
