Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect the radioactivity of great area efficiently and to avoid the damage of photo electron tubes, by detecting the radioactivity with radioactivity- photo conversion through the use of wide angle light collector and immediately stopping the application of high voltage to the photo electron tubes is the light shield film of the scintillator is destroyed.
CONSTITUTION: The radioactivity detecter 1 consists of the radioactivity-light conversion medium(scintillator)2 converting radioactivity into light, wide angle light collector 3, reflector 4, light pipe 5, and photo electron tube 6. The actual example of the detector is shwon in Figure. The effective sizes X and Y constitute the size of legs. By replacing the type of material of the film for the scintillator 2, it can be used to any of α, β, and γ rays. With this constitution, single radioactivity of greater area can be measured and the distribution characteristics for the measuring value flat in the full measuring range can be obtained and it is easy and low in cost since no gas is used. Further, the destruction of photo electron tube can be prevented by stopping the voltage to the tube if the light shield film 2c is damaged.
