Abstract

PURPOSE: The reaction between dicyan and chlorine is effected in the presence of a specific catalyst at relatively mild temperatures lower than 500°C, thus reducing the amount of the catalyst used and energy consumed and producing title compound that is used as a synthetic intermediate of agricultural chemicals and dyes in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: The reaction between dicyan and chlorine is effected using two kinds of catalysts in two stages, of which the first is activated carbon supporting at least 13% of an aluminum salt and a compound of MeY (MeY is at least one salt selected from salts of Mg, Ca, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn) and the second is activated carbon. The reaction temperature at both stages is commonly 350W500, preferably 380W460°C and the space velocity of the gas mix of dicyan and chlorine is 100W10,000hr-1 based on the metal-supporting catalyst.
EFFECT: The running operation can be conducted advantageously with high space velocity.
