Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain feed suitable for cattle, poultry and fish, by fermenting water oat with a novel variant of bacteria, thereby changing even the stalk of the water oat to edible feed.
CONSTITUTION: Harvested water oat is dried, optionally cut into proper sizes, washed with water, and steamed. After cooling, it is inoculated with novel Bacillus subtilis ON-1 (cultured cells, mixture of cells and culture medium, water oat attached with the cells or its spore, etc.), and fermented. The fermented water oat thus obtained is used as an nutrient component of feed. The bacterium is bacillus which has a size of about 0.7W0.8×2W3 microns, proliferates in conventional agar culturing medium suitably at 28W37°C and decomposes glucose.
