Abstract

PURPOSE:To control the success and failure of laser welding, by comparing the energy value and peak value of the laser beam used in welding with the respective set values. CONSTITUTION:Majority of laser beam 12 from an oscillator 11 is reflected by a dichroic mirror 13, and is condensed into a work 15 by a lens 4 to perform laser welding. In this method, the part of laser beam 12 passing through the dichroic mirror 13 is detected by a detector 17 to obtain the energy value and peak value thereof, which are respectively compared with the specified ranges of energy value and peak value being set in an energy comparator 18 and a peak value comparator 19. On the basis of the results of such comparisons, the welding is controlled. In this method, even if the kind of lamp (krypton lamp, xenon lamp) for oscillation of laser in the oscillator 11 is changed, adequate quality control may be achieved.
