Abstract

PURPOSE: To decrease the gases released after the completion of the lamp, by exhausting impurity gases released from a phosphor film by the heat generated by a high-voltage glow discharge produced between the filaments during the air- exhausting process before mercury is sealed.
CONSTITUTION: While the air in a non-sealed fluorescent lamp is exhausted by an exhausting machine, it is heated to remove the impurity gases adsorbed by a phosphor film of the bulb and other seal members, and then an electron emitting material provided on the filaments is decomposed and activated by a current supplied to the filaments, and decomposed gases released at that time are exhaused, and then a glow discharge is produced by applying a high voltage between the both filaments. Thereafter, the impurity gases released by the discharge is exhausted and mercury and a start gas is sealed therein.
