Abstract

PURPOSE: To effect perfect joining of a wick in a heat pipe by inserting into a wick sheath a pressing rod having a large coefficient of expansion and further holding the sheath by the jigs with a very small coefficient of expansion and subjecting them to a heat treatment.
CONSTITUTION: A wick 6 is inserted into a sheath 5, then a pressing rod 7 having a large coefficient of expansion is inserted to press the wick 6 against the inner wall of the sheath 5, and then the sheath is held and fixed in position by the jigs 8a, 8b having a very small coefficient of expansion. This is followed by a heat treatment in dry hydrogen at 800W900°C for about 15 minutes. Whereby the wick 6 is heat- bonded to the inner wall of the sheath 5 since the coefficient of expansion of the pressing rod 7 is greater than that of the jigs 8a, 8b, and the joint of the wick 6 and sheath 5 is perfectly integrated crystallographically, too. It is possible to improve the performance by such simple process.
