Abstract

PURPOSE:To prepare in autohesive composition having excellent heat resistance and stable vulcanizability independently of the kind and the amount of mineral filler added thereto, by the heat vulcanization of a composition composed of EPDM, a polymer containing tertiary carbon stoms, a mineral filler, an organic peroxide and a quinoid compound. CONSTITUTION:A composition obtained by kneading (A) 100 parts by weight of an ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer (EPDM; pref. having an ethylene content of 40-75 mol% and an iodine value of about 5-25), (B) 5-100 parts of a polymer having a large amount of tert-carbon atoms in the moledule and having a molecular weight of 30,000-200,000, esp. 60,000-120,000, e.g. polyisobutylene, butyl rubber, etc., and (C) 30-150 parts of a mineral filler, is compounced with (D) 0.5-10 parts, esp. 1-5 parts of an organic peroxide (e.g. dicumyl peroxide) and (E) 0.5-10 parts, esp. 1-5 parts of a quionone derivative (e.g. p,p'-divenzoylquinone dioxime). The mixture is kneaded with a Bandury mixer, etc. and formed to a sheet. The sheet is vulcanized by heating at 150-180 deg.C for 10-30 minutes to afford the objective autohesive composition.
