Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent possible burning of the superconductive magnet by actuating the relay utilizing a part of quench energy released when ths superconductive coil composing the magnet is converted to normal conduction. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of superconductive coils 11a-11f are connected in series and thermal current switches 12a-12f and protective resistances 13a-13f for absorbing quench energy are each connected in parallel to the coils. Then, the assembly is housed in an extremely low temperature vessel 14 maintained at an extremely low temperature with a liquid He, where the coils 11a-11f are made superconductive. The mid-point outputs of the coils are drawn outside the vessel 14 through a lead wire and two outputs each are fed to diode bridges 15a-15c, while a relay 16 is connected to the output circuit common thereto. With such an arrangement, the relay 16 is actuated using the quench energy to halt the function of the coils at the conversion to normal conduction thereby preventing the damage to the magnet made up of these coils.
