Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain sodium dithionite and hydrogen peroxide while effectively utilizing anthrahydroquinones by reacting a residual anthrahydroquinones-contg. soln. after production of the sodium dithionite with oxygen to produce the hydrogen peroxide.
CONSTITUTION: A functional soln. of a raised anthrahydroquinones content is reacted with sodium pyrosulfite or sodium hydrogensulfite, and the resulting sodium dithionite is separated by filtration, water extraction or other method. Since anthrahydroquinones remain in the functional soln., this soln. is contacted to oxygen to form hydrogen peroxide, which is then separated by water extraction. In order to perform this method availably, after separating the hydrogen peroxide anthraquinones in the soln. are hydrogenated to raise the anthrahydroquinones content of the soln., and this soln. is recycled.
