Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the teminal ends which are capable of holding sufficient mechanical strength without using any binding agent by colsely contacting the optical fibers exposed to terminal members having a straight line of fine hole, covering the connection part with a reinforcing tube and securing them. CONSTITUTION:A terminal member 1 using glass as its raw material is pierced with a straight line of fine through-hole 2 of the inside diameter approximately equal to the outside diameter of an optical fiber OF4. First, the covering 5 at the teminal part of an optical transmission body 3 is removed by the specified length to expose the OF4 alone, thence only the terminal member 1 is heated to expand the bore of the fine hole 2. The exposed OF 4 is then inserted into the terminal member from its one end. When the terminal member 1 is sufficiently cooled after this, the OF4 is fitted closely with the inside wall of the fine hole 2 and is fixed without any binding agent. Thence, part of the terminal member and part of the covering material 5 are connected and covered by a reinforcing pipe 6 and are secured by a binding agent 7. Thereby, the terminal part having sufficient mechanical strength may be obtained.
