Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove unevenness from surface of work already ground by the first layer of the rotary disc by providing novel combined grinding wheel comprising rotary disc having first and second grind granule layers disposed on its periphery, wherein the granules of the first and second layers are interbonded by metal and elastic bond respectively, and in grinding operation, the second layer is functional to push up grind granules. CONSTITUTION:Rotary disc 12 is provided on its periphery with first grind granule layer 11 interbonded by metal and with second grind granule layer 13 interbonded by elastic bond. In a case where an oxide ceramics is cut to a predetermined length by the rotary disc 12, the ceramics is first machined by first grind granule layer 11 on the peripheral edge of the disc 12, and then finished by second layer 13. In this finishing operation, the second layer 13 is functional to push up minimal grind granules just like as spring action owing to heat generated in the machining operation, so that unevenness on the surface of and irregular portions on the peripheral edge of the ceramics already machined by the first layer 11 are all removed by the pushed up minimal grind granules.
