Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound useful as detergents, textile finishes, and medicines, in high yield, by esterifying orthophosphoric acid with an alcohol or its alkylene oxide adduct with azeotropic or vacuum dehydration.
CONSTITUTION: One mole of an 8W20C straight or branched chain (un)saturated aliphatic alcohol, e.g. lauryl alcohol, or its adduct with an alkylene oxide (≤30mol), or a 1W20C alkylphenol adduct with an alkylene oxide (≤30mol) is esterified with 0.5W2.9mol of orthophosphoric acid in the presence or absence of an organic solvent, e.g. xylene, at 100W150°C, preferably 120W140°C, with azeotropic or vacuum dehydration to give the compound of the formula (R is organic hydroxy compound residue).
EFFECT: Safely used as creams or lipsticks directly applied to the skin due to almost no arsenic.
