Abstract

PURPOSE:A cosmetic that contains ascorbic 6-monoester clathrated with beta-cyclodextrin, thus showing improved stability against light and heat without any adverse effect on vitamin C and having suitable lipophilic and hydrophilic properties. CONSTITUTION:beta-Cyclodextrin is dispersed in hot water and ascorbic 6-higher fatty acid monoester is gradually added to the dispersion. After both dissolves completely, they are cooled to precipitate the clathrate compound. The molar ratio of said ester to beta-cyclodextrin is 0.5-2, preferably 1. The resulting clathrate is incorporated to cream, milky lotion, toilet water, pack, etc. Said clathrate has the same effect of vitamin C as ascorbic acid (effect of preventing oxidation and bleaching burned skins) and improved resistance to heat, oxidation and light.
