PURPOSE: To reduce capacity of an acceleration power source for AC electric motors by dividing them into plural groups, raising frequency of plural variable frequency power source gradually at the time of starting of the groups of electric motors, and also, at the same time, by connecting the groups of the electric motors to their respective variable frequency power sources alternately.
CONSTITUTION: When AC electric motors 2-1∼2-2m are started, at first, a variable frequency power source 1-2 is operated at a frequency f1 and a variable frequency power source 1-3 is operated at a frequency f2 (provided, f1<f2), and a group 1 (2-1∼2-m) is connected to a variable frequency power source 1-2. And at the time when the group 1 is synchronized with the frequency f1, the group 1 is switched to the variable frequency power source 1-3, and at the same time, a group 2[2-(m+1)∼2-2m]is connected to a variable frequency power source 1-2. From that time afterward, frequencies of the variable frequency power sources 1-2 and 1-3 are raised in order on step-by-step basis, the groups 1 and 2 are alternately connected for acceleration, and when they reached the rated r.p.m., they are connected to the rated frequency power source 1.
