Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent insufficient generation of braking power in a side of a leading shoe by utilizing a non-symmetric type cam having a long and a short effective length and making an amount of displacement toward the leading shoe bigger than that toward a trailing shoe.
CONSTITUTION: A cam shaft is pivotted in counter-clockwise by a movement of an operating lever 9 operated by a treading force on a brake-pedal and a longer side 10l of a cam 10 is pushed against a leading shoe 4 while a shorter side 10t of the same is pushed against a trailing shoe 5 respectively, and thereby, both of them are expanded and are pressed onto a brake-drum 3 at the same time. Due to these operations, compressive deformations are begun in brake-linings 11, 12 and the lining 11 for the leading shoe 4, which is the side causing much bigger braking force, is much more deformed by compression. However, the effective length of the operating surface at a tip of the longer side 101 of the cam 10 is longer than that of the shorter side 10t, therefore, the amount of the displacement of the leading shoe 4 is big enough to be capable of following the deformation of the lining 11, and thus, decreasing of a total braking power may be prevented.
