Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the leakage of gas from bearing portion and the deposition of deposites on the bearing portion by inserting between the bearing portion and a valve body a metallic seal ring which tends to open wide radially outwardly by its elasticity.
CONSTITUTION: In the case where a butterfly valve is used for controlling the flow rate of exhaust gas, the exhaust gas has a tendency of leaking from around a valve shaft 14 to the outside of a valve main body 13. However, because a seal ring 26 opens wide radially outwardly by its elasticity to engage the valve main body 13 airtight, the exhaust gas cannot leak from around the seal ring 26 through a bearing portion 25. In addition, the seal ring 26 is moved axially outwardly along the valve shaft 14 by the pressure of the exhaust gas, so that its side face 26b comes in airtight engagement with the side face 14e of a groove 14c. Thus, even if the exhaust gas can pass through a clearance C, it cannot pass between the side face 26b of the seal ring 26 and the side face 14e of the groove 14c.
