Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the heat generation of resin and increase mixing effect by making the cross-sectional form of a screw perpendicular to its axis into a polygonal form and inclining the axes of root diameter parts to the screw axis. CONSTITUTION:The screw root diameter parts 3 of a part or the whole of a screw 1 perpendicular to the axes are made into polygonal forms or plygon like forms. The axes of the polygonal root diameter parts 3 are inclined to the screw axis 5 by an angle theta. Therefore, the depth of the screw grooves increases and decreases alternately along the screw flight 2 as shown in figures A-C, and at the same time, changes in the axial direction, and the depths of the tops of the groove corners have a relation a<c<d<b. By so doing, resin in the screw grooves undergoes compression shearing owing to the change of the inclination direction in the flight direction and the change of the groove depth, and is mixed sufficiently, therefore, mixing effect is increased and large extrusion quantities can be obtained without excessive heat generation even if the grooves are made deep.
