Abstract

PURPOSE:To permit automatic adjustment of the brake gap with such an arrangement that ratchet pawls respectively pivoted to a stationary frame and a rotary lever separate from an operating shaft for opening a shoe are engaged with a ratchet secured to the operating shaft. CONSTITUTION:When a solenoid is de-energized, a rotary lever 16 is rotated in the counterclockwise direction about a shaft 17, whereby a ratcket pawl 22 pivoted by a pin 23 to the rotary lever 16 causes rotation of a ratchet 15 to cause a rotary shaft thereof, i.e., operating shaft 14a, to have a brake action between a pair of shoes. When the brake distance between the shoes and drum is increased, the ratchet 15 is rotated to an extent in excess of the length L of a gear 15a, whereby a ratchet 24 pivoted by pin 25 to a stationary frame is engaged with the next ratchet tooth. Thus, at the time of releasing of the brake the return of the ratchet 15 is regulated to effect automatic adjustment of the brake gap.
