Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an arrangement for internal combustion engine with subsidiary combustion chamber, in which an ignition plug is disposed in a torch port communicating a main combustion chamber and a subsidiary combustion chamber together by the intermediary of a partition wall, so as to prevent direct contact of flame with the ignition plug and thus to eliminate misfiring of mixture.
CONSTITUTION: A subsidiary combustion chamber 26 is formed in cylinder head 20. Near the outlet of this subsidiary combustion chamber 26, there are formed a partition wall 36 and a torch port 28 in the form of a relatively large-diametered port 34 which is communicated to main combustion chamber 22. Electrodes 31, 32 of ignition plug 30 are disposed in the port 34 at a position where they are separated from the subsidiary combustion chamber 26 by partition wall 36. Further, subsidiary combustion chamber 26 and main combustion chamber 22 are communicated with each other through a restriction 40 formed by the partition wall 36. Therefore, it is prevented by the function of partition wall 36 that flame issued from subsidiary combustion chamber 26 comes into direct contact with electrodes 31, 32.
