Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound having an antibacterial activity industrially advantageously, by reacting a trivalent organic phosphorus compound having one or two 1-imidazolyl groups as an active derivative of imidazole with a triphenylmethanol.
CONSTITUTION: A trivalent organic phosphorus compound (P) having one or two 1-imidazolyl groups, e.g. diethyl (1-imidazolyl) phosphite is reacted with triphenylmethanol to give an N-substituted imidazole, e.g. 1-triphenylmethylimidazole. The compound (P) is obtained by reacting a halogenated phosphorus compound of formula I or II (X is halogen; B and C are alkyl, aryl, alkoxy groups, etc.) with a trialkylsilyl derivative of an imidazole wherein the 2-,4- or 5-position is (un)substituted.
