Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent unneeded abrasion of a magnetic head by making the magnetic head meet or separate from a print medium in accordance with a detection signal indicating the existence of a magnetic recording medium and also by starting or stopping information reception.
CONSTITUTION: Print medium 18 moves as shown by arrow B and when its end reaches optical sensor 12, sensor 12 detects it, so that detection circuit 13 will detect a magnetic recording medium being set. This detection signal is sent to AND circuit 11 and permission signal (a) is transmitted to magnetic-heat driver circuit 8, so that magnetic head 7 will come in contact with recording medium 19. Further, a signal from circuit 13 is supplied to AND circuit 14 and main control part 17; circuit 14 supplies reproduced signal (b) to read control circuit 15 and control part 17 commands that circuit 15 start a read. Then, when the end of recording medium 19 reaches sensor 12, a head separation signal is sent to circuit 8 and head 7 is separated from recording medium 19. For write operation, on the other hand, recording medium 19 is detected by using optical sensor 1.
