Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain easily a medium-to-low density copolymer of high melt index in high catalytic efficiency, by the gas phase copolymerization between ethylene and a specific amount of butene-1 in the presence of a catalyst consisting of an organoaluminum compound and a solid substance prepared by carring a Ti-or V- compound on a Mg-contg. inorganic carrier.
CONSTITUTION: The objective copolymer can be obtained by the copolymerization in a gas phase virtually free from any solvent between ethylene and 1W30mol%, based on the ethylene, of betone-1 in the presence of a catalyst consisting of (a) an organoaluminum compound and (b) a solid substance prepared by carrying either a Ti compound or a V compound or both of them on a Mg-contg. solid inorganic carrier such as of MgO, MgCl2. The ethylene-butene-1 copolymer thus obtained has a melt index of 0.01W10 and a density of 0.910W0.945. According to the process of this invention, a catalyst-removing procedure may be omitted.
