Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce the title glass body minimizing light absorption due to hydroxyl groups by using glass raw material contg. silicic acid hydrate, an alkaline earth metal salt and a metal halide. CONSTITUTION:Glass raw material is heat melted and converted into glass. Using this glass a glass body for light transmission is produced. The glass raw material contains (A) silicic acid hydrate such as methyl silicate or alkali silicate, (B) 1- 50wt% as oxide of an alkaline earth metal salt selected from the hydroxides, oxides, carbonates, nitrates, chlorides, bromides and iodides of Ca, Sr and Ba, and (C) 0.1-5wt% of a metal halide selected from alkali metal and alkaline earth metal halides, magnesium halide, lead halide, etc.
