Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide the title material capable of giving a product having superior glass film adherence and magnetic characteristics without producing an uneven strain, an internal strain, etc. by blending magnesium oxides with different BET specific surface areas in a specified ratio. CONSTITUTION:70-90wt% of mangesium oxide with a BET specific surface area of 15-30m<2>/g and 10-30% of magnesium oxide with a BET specific surface area of 1-10m<2>/g are pulverized and blended. These magnesium oxides are obtd. by calcining magnesium hydroxide with a BET specific surface area of 30m<2>/g or less and allowing 15-30 OH groups per 100Angstrom <2> to exist on the surface. By coating the resulting protective coating material on a steel sheet or the like prior to annealing, a high quality product is given having superior glass film adherence and magnetic characteristics without superoxidation, spangling and production of an uneven strain, an internal strain, etc.
