Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a spoiler flap used for the blades of a wind mill, which is designed such that its rear upper surface is positioned near the center line of the balde of a wind mill, so that pressure difference on the upper surface and the lower surface at the rear portion of the spoiler flap is increased sufficiently to turn the flap, whereby it is enabled to brake the wind mill positively by applying a large braking force to the blades of wind mill.
CONSTITUTION: Upper surface of spoiler flap 4 at its rear portion l2 is positioned to lie substantially on the center line CL of blade 1 of a wind mill, whereras its front portion l1 is located apart from the center line CL. With such an arrangement for the spoiler flap 4, negative pressure on the upper surface at the rear portion l2 is increased as the turning speed of wind mill increases. On the other hand, pressure on the lower surface of flap 4 at the rear portion l2 is increased by the function of stepped portion 5 formed on the lower surface of flap 4, so that pressure difference on the upper and the lower surfaces of flap 4 is increased sufficiently to turn spoiler flap 4 against the force of spring to a position shown by dotted line 4' in the drawing. Resultantly, a large braking force is acted to the blades 1 of wind mill to brake the same, so that the wind mill can be protected against overspeed.
