Abstract
PURPOSE:To achieve the improvement in mechanical strength and optical characteristics by using metal halide for the optical transmission part and bonding and covering this with waterproof covering material. CONSTITUTION:The optical transmission part includes the one of the two layer construction of the core and clad constituted by transparent metal halide or the one of quadratic-curve distributed refractive index distributions having no boundaries for the core and clad, and comprises using cesium iodide as the core material constituting the optical transmission member and cesium bromide as the clad material, extruding the same to fibrous bodies by a hot double extrusion method or the like to make the fibrous bodies, and coating and baking resin, e.g., silicone resin, low melting point glass, etc. on the extruded fibrous bodies before they contact the solids such as guard reel drums, etc. thereby covering the same. This enables mechanical strength and optical characteristics to be improved considerably.
