Abstract

PURPOSE:To prepare a stable emulsion, by dispersing a hydrophobic solid containing an alkali salt of a fatty acid as a surface active agent in an aqueous solution of a specific polymer, and thereafter adding a liquid, an organic acid, etc. to the dispersion to keep the pH value below a specific level, thereby converting the fatty acid alkali salt completely to the free fatty acid. CONSTITUTION:A hydrophobic solid composition containing an alkali salt of a fatty acid as a surface active agent is dispersed in an aqueous solution of a carboxyvinyl polymer, having an acidity of pH 2.5-4, and a known hydrophobic liquid base, e.g. hydrocarbons such as liquid paraffin, squalane, etc., esters such as isopropyl myristate, etc., is added thereto to give an emulsion. When the amount of the carboxyvinyl polymer is smaller than the amount required to neutralize the alkali salt of the fatty acid, an organic acid, e.g. lactic acid, citric acid, etc., is added to the emulsion to attain a pH value of <=7. The surface active agent is removed by this process, and an emulsion having stable properties with temperature and increased storage stability is obtained.
