Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the device which may be used for dark subjects as well and has no parallax by having a projector, a photo detector and a drive device for focus adjustment and calculating the distance up to the subject from the angle that the base line length and light beam assume.
CONSTITUTION: A light emitting device 1 and lens 3 are directed to the object 4 by a rotating shaft 2. The light beam from this light projector 18 becomes a reflected beam 17 which then passes through a mirror 6 and total reflecting mirror 7 by way of a photographic lens 5 and arrives at the film plane 21 and photo detector 8. The distance l1 up to the object 4 may be obtained by l1=Ktan(90° -θ) through triangular measurement from the light emission using the slender light beam from the light emitting device 1 such as infrated ray emitting diode, the angle θ that the reflected angle beam assumes and the base line length K. This method lets the device operate even for the dark subjects and enables the same to be used for the bright subjects as well. Since photo detection is performed with the photograqhic lens, parallax will not be produced and since the distance is measured from the angle of the projector, the quantity for driving the photographic lens can be less.
