Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce thickness and achieve the improvement in reflecting ability by evenly dispersing and mixing pearl pigments to one of the surface protecting film layers provided on both surfaces of the polarizer.
CONSTITUTION: The polarizer is made by adsorbing and orientating polarizing elements such as iodine and dichromatic dyes on a film such as of polyvinyl alcohol base. On both surfaces of this polarizer are affixed surface protecting films of acetate films or the like. Here, pearl pigments such as fish scale guanine, basic lead carbonate or titanium dioxide coated mica are evenly mixed and dispersed in one of the film layers. It is desirable that said pearl pigments have mean longest diameters of about 3W150μ and thickness below 1/10 said diameters and be added within a range of about 5W50wt%.
