Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a Mg-contg. Al alloy of stabilized quality for casting by adding a predetermined ratio of Sb to a molten Al-Si type alloy at a predetermined alloy temp.; adding Mg; and holding the Sb- an Mg-added molten alloy for a specified temp.
CONSTITUTION: A molten Al-Si type alloy including a molten Al-Si-Cu type alloy is held at 730°C or above, esp. 730W800°C, and 0.08W0.50, esp. 0.10W 0.20wt% Sb is added to the alloy. After adding 0.2W1.5wt% Mg the alloy is held at the above temp. for 1hr or more. The resulting mg-contg. Al-Si alloy for casting has stabilized mechanical properties, esp. elongation and impact value.
