Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a polyoxymethylene having high molecular weight and excellent heat stability, by polymerizing formaldehyde in the presence of a reaction product of an aluminum compound with a compound coordinatable therewith, and heating and melting the polymer.
CONSTITUTION: Formaldehyde is polymerized in the presence of a reaction product of (A) an aluminum compound of formula R1-Al(R2)(R3)(R1 is alkyl or alkoxy; R2,3 are alkyl, alkoxy or halogen) such as monoethoxy aluminum diethyl, monoethoxy aluminum dibromide, monoethyl aluminum dichloride, etc., and the resulting polyoxymethylene is melted for ≥5 minutes.
