Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the cutting yield and the cutting efficiency by giving a forced braking to the steal wire under an innertia running in transit from the rolling process to cutting process and having the wire exactly stop at the intended position.
CONSTITUTION: The steel wire rolled by a rolling mill 1 and cut by a hot cutter 2 in long length is transfered on the rollers of transfer passage 3 by its inertia running. The passing time of the steel wire on said transfer passage is detected by three photoconductive cell detectors 61W63, and the detected signals are sent to a processor 8 which obtains the transfer speed, the transfer friction coefficient and the slow down characteristics and calculates the pressing force and acting time required to stop the steel wire at the intended position on the transfer passage. the processed results are sent to a braking device 7 which applies a downward pressing force on the wire based on said processed results forcing the wire to stop at the intended position. The stopped wire is sent to a carry-out passage 5 while being cooled on its way on a cooling bed 4 and is fed to a cold cutter to be cut to predetermined length.
