Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce fine zinc oxide of uniform shape by neutralizing or heating a basic zinc salt formed by neutralizing an aq. soln. contg. a zinc salt.
CONSTITUTION: An aq. soln. of a zinc salt such as zinc nitrate is neutralized with an alkali agent such as NH3 or NaOH at such a relatively low temp. as below 80°C to convert part or most of the zinc salt into a basic zinc salt such as basic zinc nitrate once. The aq. soln. is further neutralized at the relatively low temp. to finallly form zinc oxide. The basic zinc salt may be formed at low temp. io a low pH value and decomposed by heating optionally after separating the mother liquor. Thus, zinc oxide of 1μ or below in grain size is stably obtd., and the grain size and shape of the zinc oxide are uniform.
