Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove trouble due to foaming by carrying out defoaming in a simple operation comprising adding an aqueous solution of a salt of aromatic primary amine-formaldehyde polycondensation product to a foamable aqueous solution to break bubbles.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution of hydrochloride or acetate of aromatic primary amine such as aniline, toluidine is reacted with formaldehyde by polycondensation in a molar ratio of 1:0.75W1.30 of the amine to formaldehyde to yield an aqueous solution of hydrochoride or acetate of polycondensation product. An aqueous solution of a salt of aromatic primary amine-formaldehyde polymerization product at a concentration of 0.01W20% by weight is sprinkled over a foamable aqueous solution to break bubbles or is added to the foamable aqueous solution to control foaming. Defoaming can be effected in a small amount of the agent, and the trouble due to foaming can be eliminated.
