CONSTITUTION: Residual cake after alkali washing of crude rice bran oil is incorporated with a monohydric lower alcohol under acidic conditions and the insoluble substances are removed. The monohydric lower alcohol solution is neutralized and the substances soluble in a monohydric lower alcohol are extracted. Further the acetone-soluble substances are extracted therefrom. Finally the substances soluble in a monohydric lower alcohol except sodium are extracted, from which water is removed to give Vitamin B13 of formula C5H4N2O4. Vitamin B13 shows, when dissolved in water, characteristic absorption maxima at 205 and 280mμ of wave length and their molecular extinction coefficients are 10.7×103 (205mμ) and 7.52× 103 (280mμ) respectively.
