Abstract

PURPOSE: The molding sand binder which is composed of water soluble copolymer of acrylic acids and water glass and which is superior in disintegrability and is good in strength, workability and storage stability.
CONSTITUTION: The water soluble copolymer containing more than 30mol% of acrylic acid or the α or β substituent of the acrylic acid and water glass are mixed to prepare the molding sand binder. The water soluble copolymer is preferably 500W50,000 in molecular weight and the water glass is preferably 2.3W3.1 in n of Na2O.nSiO2 and 34W55 in Baume number at 20°C. Mixing ratios are preferably water 50W400 parts, water soluble copolymer 1W80 parts based on 100 parts of water glass solids and the solid concentrations are suitably 25W50% and viscosity 500W10,000cps.
