Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate the need for complex shift operation switching control by equalizing the number of times of character writing on monitor lines to that of character writing on monitor lines to that of character rewriting from monitor lines onto display lines.
CONSTITUTION: The display screen of longitudianl shift type gas discharge panel 10 is divided electrically into three parts for cursor display lines 11, monitor lines 12 and display lines 13 respectively. Then, discharge spots of character information written on the above-mentioned panel 10 are shifted to shifting discharge cells at character display positions on monitor lines 12 via display lines 11 as many times as discharge spots made at discharge cells on monitor lines 12 are shifted to shift discharge cells at character position on display lines 13. For the purpose, character information written on monitor lines 12 is so shifted to display lines 13 that characters will be arrayed with spacing equivalent to at least cursor display lines 11 from the end at the side of display line 13 of monitor line 12.
