Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:Amino-α-carboline compound of the formula (R=H, OH).
EXAMPLE: 2-Amino-9H-pyrido[2,3-b]indole of formula I (R=H).
USE: Mutagenic agent and plasma-conversion factor of Salmonella typhimurium TA98. The carcinogenicity of chemicals, foods, etc. can be estimated by the mutagenesis of microorganisms.
PROCESS: Soybean casein is heated to give a distilled tar, which is then dissolved with ether and acidified with HCl. This mixture is separated to an ethereal and an aqueous HCl layer under stirring. The separated aqueous HCl layer is collected and alkalized with NaOH, and ether is added. The resultant ethereal layer is separated and concentrated in vacuo to give a basic part which is extracted several times, giving a compound of the formula.
