Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent a temperature drop of the rear end part of the billet and reduce the weight of discard, by inserting an adiabatic tool which is smaller than the billet in its outside diameter and has a leg part, between the billet and the dummy block.
CONSTITUTION: Between the heated billet 1 and the dummy block 2 is inserted an adiabatic tool 3 such as glass disk, etc., which is smaller than the outside diameter of the billet 1 and larger than the outside diameter of the mandrel 6, and also has a leg part supporting the billet loader 4. The billet 1 goes into the container 7, the mandrel 6 passed in the billet 1 and enters into the hole of dies 8, when pressure is put to the stem 5, the billet is pushed out and becomes a pipe 11. In this case, the glass disk 9 for lubrication performs lubricating action between the billet 1 and the dies 8. Also, lubrication between the billet 1 and the mandrel 6 is excecuted by glass powder which adheres to the billet 1. Thus, the hot extrusion yield rate of matallic material can be elevated.
