Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance image quality in an image side end, by according the direction of a linear light source for illuminating an imaging area, with that of the border line between the end line of a light shielding plate and the nonimaging area. CONSTITUTION:Drawings viewed from the direction of rotation of photoreceptor 4 and from that at a right angle are shown. In the upper drawing, image forming area I is illuminated with original imaging light flux L. Nonimaging area N near the end of photoreceptor 4 extends in the direction at a right angle to the drawing and light shielding plate 3 is placed in the same direction as border line B of nonimaging area N. Linear filament 2 of light source 1 is arranged in the direction at a right angle to the drawing on line S in which direction the image of end 3' of plate 3 is projected on border line B. This method permits area N to be sharply illuminated up to line B, image quality in the side to be improved, toner on area N to be eliminated, thereby, the end part of transfer paper not to be stained, and further, power for source 1 to be cut down.
