Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a durable discharge lamp of high transmittance by preventing cracking of ceramic tube sealing part by grinding both ends of a light transmittable alumina ceramic tube made of alumina particles of a specific size by abrasive particles of a specific size. CONSTITUTION:A luminous tube is prepared by grinding the internal and/or external surface of both ends of a light transmittable alumina ceramic tube 2 made of alumina particles of mean diameter over 80mu by abrasive particles of diameters less than 70mu. For example, the internal surface of both ends of an alumina ceramic tube 2 which is prepared from alumina particles of a larger mean particle size and thus provided with improved transmittance is ground by conical grinding face 13 of a grinding tool 12 having diamond grinding particles smaller than 70mu to form ground face 14, thus cracks and microcracks produced in cutting the tube are removed so that faulty sealing due to cracks is prevented providing durable discharge tube of a high transmittance.
