Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce conservation cost, by providing a plurality of soft metal layers on the outer surface of a thermocouple sheath, and thereby fixing the heat response speed and at the same time facilitating replacement when damage occurred.
CONSTITUTION: Sheath thermocouple 5 consists of cylindrical metal sheath 1, conductors 3 and 4, which are inserted in it, and insulator 2, which is filled between conductors 3 and 4. Three narrow, relatively soft metal layers 8a, 8b, and 8c are provided on the outer surface of sheath 1 at intervals of 60° and along its axial direction. Metal layers 8 are made of indium, copper or gold, for example, and are fixed by plating or evaporation. Sheath 5 so constructed can easily be inserted into guide pipe 6 without becoming eccentric. Since metal layers 8a to 8c are made of soft metal, the thermocouple can be inserted or pulled out without causing damage to guide pipe 6.
