Abstract

PURPOSE: To treat the exhaust gas containing hydrogen sulfide from the plant utilizing subterranean heat readily irrespective of the amount and density of the gas being treated by burning said gas and catalytically oxidizing the sulfuorous acid gas formed to sulfuric acid anhydride then letting the same be absorbed in concentrated sulfuric acid.
CONSTITUTION: This is the treating method of the exhaust gas containing hydrogen sulfide produced in the plant utilizing the subterranean heat such as geo-thermal power generation, wherein the exhaust gas is sent together with air to a combustion furnace and air is added to the combustion gas containing the resultant SO2 to allow the same to contact with V2O5 catalyst to cause SO3 to be formed. After the gas containing this SO3 is cooled, it is contacted with concentrated sulfuric acid in an absorption tower, whereby SO3 is absorbed.
