Abstract

A heat exchanger comprises a shell having a fluid inlet 22 and a fluid outlet 24, for a fluid cooled in passing over a tube bundle 30 positioned within the shell, means (e.g. a duct-forming guide plate 18 and metal shrouding 32, 33) for directing the flow of said fluid transversely over the tubes of said bundle between an inlet flow A and outlet flow B, and means (e.g. seal bars 47, 48 co-operating with compressible seal elements 42 and runner bars 38-41) for confining said fluid flow to exit only through the outlet side of said bundle (e.g. via a perforated plate 26). The tube bundle is fixed at one end thereof to the shell, and the sealing means permit relative expansion of the shrouding and the bundle. Drains 20 allow run-off of moisture condensed from the cooled fluid. <IMAGE>
